Joblessness guarantees in San Francisco have taken off past 60,000 this year and have just surpassed the cases recorded during the 2008 and 2009 Great Recession, Mayor London Breed said Wednesday.
In pointing out joblessness, Breed underlined the significance of the work being finished by the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force she declared recently with Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee.
"As of April 4, 60,000 San Franciscans have petitioned for joblessness and we foresee that another 40,000 San Franciscans in the following barely any weeks will petition for joblessness," Breed said during a question and answer session.
By correlation, she stated, during the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009, 45,000 individuals applied for joblessness.
"We will have some genuine difficulties with our economy," Breed said.
